Still having questions about the new world he’s been dropped into, Ethan has more pressing concerns figuring out who or what is killing the wizards.
Unfortunately, the only source of those answers seems to be the members only library of the Order of the Scroll. Of course, he can join and read all the books he wants – but there’s a catch.
The custodians of the library first want him to retrieve some lost tomes from an abandoned library in a ruined city. Seems simple, right? Not a chance. Did they forget to mention that no one who’s entered the library has ever returned?
To make matters worse, Ethan almost kills himself learning a new type of magic, but it might just be the key to making it out of this crazy adventure alive.

This book is a gem! From the beginning to the end, this author evidences a clear story line, character development, created anticipation for the reader, and ended the book well with the reader wanting more. One will read this and desire the next in the series. Enjoy the ride and don’t become a wizard!
Going from being your average working mmo gamer to being abducted and left on an alien world with all sorts of fantasy creatures and abilities would send most people spiraling. Ethan had more important things to worry about; like survival. A great read with an interesting concept and lead in for the next book. Looking forward to more in the series!
If you like LITRPG you will enjoy this book. What I liked most about this book is that it focuses on the MC and party and doesn't spread quickly to do a bunch of world building. The world building is done thru the perception of the world by the MC. The magic system has a bit of a twist to it which is interesting also. Looking forward to the next book John!
A fun, light LitRPG Adventure in the same vein as "Noobtown"
"Village of Hawkshead" is a quick, light, enjoyable read involving the adventures of a gamer computer tech who gets transported against his will to a whole new planet that features RPG like elements. If you're looking for a story that tracks the in-game adventures of people who log in and out of a simulation, this probably isn't for you, but I love stories that take place in a "real world" that happens to have those gaming elements in it so I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I like that while the combat is realistic, this isn't a "gritty" grimdark sort of story. It's not exactly slice-of-life since the action keeps moving the whole time, but there are elements of it. The mechanics are kept to a minimum so if you're turned off by page after page of complicated game explanations, you're in luck!
The writing is good, and I saw no grammar or editing mistakes which is super refreshing. I liked the characters, though they're all fairly one dimensional. I am curious about diving into crafting and exploring more of the mechanics in a sequel.
I enjoyed reading the book, and will definitely be back for a sequel!
